Alternanthera Bettzickiana Aurea is a highly adaptable and colorful plant that is often utilized in terrariums, vivariums, and bog gardens. While not strictly an aquatic plant, it can thrive underwater for several months under specific conditions and is sometimes used as a decorative element in aquascaping. However, to maintain its optimal health, it is recommended to transition it to emersed growth after this period, allowing it to restore its energy and adjust to its aquatic environment once again.

This plant boasts vibrant leaves in a stunning golden-yellow shade, enhancing any setting with a burst of color and captivating appeal.

Growth Requirements:

Thrives when grown submerged in aquariums for extended periods, followed by emersed growth to restore vigor. Requires high humidity and consistently moist soil when grown out of water, especially during recovery or transitioning phases.

  • True Aquatic: No
  • Suitable for: Terrarium, Vivarium, Pond or House Plants in consistent high humidity
  • Lighting: Partial sunlight, or LED daylight
  • CO2: Recommended
  • Growth Rates: Medium
  • Difficulty Level: Beginner
  • Nutrient Substrate: Recommended
  • Lighting Requirements: Medium-High

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there’s always a chance of harmless hitchhikers like snails or dwarf shrimp tagging along with your plants!

I personally keep several beneficial snail species in my tanks, including Colorful Ramshorns, Bronze Bladder and Pond Snails, Mini Rams, and Malaysian Trumpet Snails. These snails stay relatively small, help clean the aquarium, and do not eat healthy plants or cause harm. However, if you’d rather avoid any hitchhikers, I highly recommend checking out our blog on how to safely disinfect aquarium plants before adding them to your tank:
How to Bleach Dip Aquarium Plants Safely

All plants are freshly snipped or harvested and packed right before shipment. I take great care in preparing every order and use methods that have consistently produced the best results over many years in the hobby. A lot of love goes into every package, so please don’t leave your plants sitting in a hot mailbox for too long 🙏

Thank you for looking, aqua friends! 💚
